The experience of viewing or interacting with a website or app on the move or in a more informal environment when compared to viewing on a desktop computer or laptop is distinctly different. Moblification is the adaptation of information architecture, user-interface design and user experience for mobile devices. In other words, it is the simplification of design to cater to users who demand different experiences and have varying priorities while viewing websites on their mobile devices.
Moblification is different to ‘responsive design’ though. Whereas responsive design is created to seamlessly re-work itself for different browser types, shapes and sizes, moblification not only adapts the design but makes it relevant to the environment in which it is being served. In short, it's designed to engage users differently dependent on where they might be viewing it, why they might be viewing it and how they might be feeling.
From a technical perspective, moblification means better catering to user-needs based on browser and connection speed, but instead of enriching or gracefully downgrading the experience, it purely caters for it with a separate set of templates; albeit served by the same CMS platform as the website - which in our case is Decibel CMS because it has an excellent publish-to-mobile function.
